Order transmission - Validation

General

We automatically check every order transmitted.

Checks on order receipt

Directly during processing of the transaction (the transmitted order (XML) with all the referenced data (e.g. PDFs)), the following points are checked.

  • Validation of the XML with XSD
  • Logical validation
  • Checking of dependencies
  • Availability of products
  • Availability of stock items
  • Check of address data transmitted

A successfully processed transaction represents a preliminary order confirmation for all orders received.

Checks after order receipt

Some checks take more time and are therefore done afterwards, during the so-called “preprocessing” phase. If preprocessing completes successfully, you will receive the final order confirmation in the form of the status “new”, meaning that your order can be produced. If the checks fail, the transaction is cancelled and we will notify you of the status “cancelled”.

The following checks are carried out during preprocessing:

  • PDF preflight
  • PDF correction
  • CRC check
  • DirecType motif calculation
  • Analysis and optimisation of mailing addresses
  • Masking and colourising (colouring of 1-bit TIFF images)
  • etc.

Notes on PDF preflight

Data transmitted are checked for the agreed-on conventions for the desired product.

Example checks:

  • Format (w x h)
  • Exact number of pages n
  • Number of pages as a multiple of n
  • Colour or B/W
  • Embedding of fonts
  • Transparency (not permitted)
  • PDF version (1.4)
  • File size (max. 2 GB)
  • Check of the number of pages delivered in the attribute “pages” vs. the calculated number of pages in the PDF
  • etc.

Tracking

You will receive detailed messages about all the checks through the tracking interface.
